Go ‘head now China, go ‘head!

August 10, 2008 § 3 Comments

Despite all of the political controversy leading up to and possibly still surrounding the 2008 Beijing Olympics — China really outdid itself with its opening ceremony and its gorgeous use of technology and creativity. It really spoke to China’s cultural history and China’s hope to turn a new page and create new symbols of peace, love, and beauty for China’s future. Like I said, in spite of all the political controversy, China really outdid itself. The beauty of it all brought a damn tear to my eye — yea, I’m a sucka for beautiful moments of creativity and performance, what can I say? 😛

Yup, I simply loved the opening ceremony. The rest of it proceeded really well too. The security is very tight, and the service is excellent. Apparently over 700 Peking Ducks have been served in their cafeteria. How I wish I could be there…

Couldn’t agree more. I thoroughly enjoyed the Ceremonies and the torch lighting. The sporting events and coverage has been quite fun to watch as well. Despite all that, it is important to see all of this in context of the authoritarian regime that totally controls Chinese society and what we see and told about what is going on.

I especially enjoyed the torch lighting, very inventive and to think that most of the special effects were carried about by humans and not machines or computers…really impressive
